GOAL FOR THE TRACK:
Practice a simpler track in a less contaminated site, verses our normally heavily scent contaminated areas.
How did it feel?
The track Felt pretty good, but I was not a good supporting partner today.
Rewatching the video, it is so painfully obvious that Wren was correct and then it not even dawning on me that she said 'yes' and tried to correct me Wren was correct. So, poor Flora had to repeat herself again.
List three things the dog did well:
Wren worked very well in an environment with loud equipment.
That turn! So pretty, and spot on.
Getting to work despite me slipping more than once. whoops. It was really funny watching me wipe out in what felt like slow motion at the time.
List things you’d like to improve:
I really put my foot in my mouth while recording for Flora. I said something along the lines of 'you know it doesn't go that way' and that is not helpful nor a kind way to work with someone. I will absolutely do much better next time with guiding and supporting, that was not the wording to support someone.
Trusting my dog. I thought that Wren was veering to go critter/sniff and made her frustrated instead of trusting and following my smart pup.
Better planning my training instead of showing up in the moment with a loose idea to pull from at the last minute.
Goal for next track:
Better support and planning for my tracking partners, both dog and human!
Note for self for future Finwe tracks: Double Lay, Flag turns and path to rewalk for the 2nd lay. Possibly Utilize turn marker, perhaps 10 yards ahead of turn for helping preparing to look for loss of scent/turn indications in the dog.
I thought this was a good outing. The dog did well, you did well, Flora did well. Having a sound plan for tomorrow's track is an awesome plan. Being able to adjust on the fly and change something is what separates the greats. I would encourage you to revisit the rotation for TD and make sure that you are purposefully addressing that rotation as you move through the week. Don't get stuck in the 'half of a regulation track to see how it feels'. The rotation addresses the foundation that will carry you through.
