Today we attended our first tracking class and were thrilled to meet everyone.
We started with showing Wren the very basic beginning steps of following a track by leaving short 'crumb trails' of delicious chicken.
To start, we are not using an article at the start or end and are leaving a jackpot of extra treats at the end of the track.
Wren did very well taking the track in a straight line with her spine centered over the line. She turned only a little to watch other students laying longer tracks, or to sniff after odd smells with her puppy brain.
We did three very short straight tracks of the chicken then put her up in her crate while i shadowed the instructor and more experienced students.
Later we learned two Article Games to play for building the foundation of a reliable article alert.
Since Wren is far more reliable with picking up things vs laying down when distracted, I am working on Wren giving her alert as picking up the article in the future.
Wren loved the games and quite enjoyed getting to play tug with the articles.
