Week 57 - Private Lesson Judi

Wren and I trucked up to Judi's for a private lesson to work on articles. Little notes for myself from Judi Lesson:

• Wren needs to indicate article 3x before being allowed to move on.

  • Trying to get a tighter 'Loop' of behavior: Nose finds article, pick up, turn, rewards, repeat.

  • Sneak Up/Hustle Up close behind Wren as she reaches article. She tends to indicate faster when I am closer.

    • (protecting prize, seeing I'm closer to reward her, cue, etc, doesn't matter why she's doing it. build on it)

  • When I give her the treat, set the article 1 foot away while she is getting to reward instead of her watching me set it down. She is 'finding' it each time, not just jumping after it because I'm tossing it.

    • The again and move it 2 feet away, etc.

  • Each Time she indicated she has to move a little more. \

  • Also try to get more articles laid by others (My husband/Flora/Etc) there is a chance Wren is cueing more on my scent/articles instead of others'.

    
    

• Rotations for Practice:

  • Starts --> Articles,

  • Turns --> Articles,

  • Endurance --> Articles.

  • Make articles every other exercise.

• Articles Games: Leave on tracking harness and clip lead to collar, instead of playing articles games without harness.

• Article tracks about 20 yards between article, make Wren indicate 3x. Try with 5 instead of 10 articles.

  • During private lesson she got more frustrated with the longer article, back to back 3x indicate exercise.

• Wren picks up weird and unusual 'articles' away from the track, so use weird stuff in the article tracks too. Hair brush, glasses case, tube, etc.

  • Not just the glove/wallet/etc normal items on the track.
