11/26/24

I practiced 2 separate sessions.

Each track was a close spaced trail of Chicken with No Articles.

Session 1:

  • Weather: 64F, 73% Humidity,

Cloudy with Sprinkling Rain, Wind W 4mph.

  • Located along upper river edge on base.

  • Each Track laid and ran in quick succession.

    • Track One - Laid at 12:08pm & Ran at 12:12pm

      • 10 yd on damp short grass.

    • Track Two - Laid at 12:17pm & Ran at 12:25pm

      • 15 yd on damp short grass.

Session 2:

  • 4:00 pm - Weather: 65F, 63% Humidity, Sunny, Wind N 0mph.

  • Located in my Front Yard.

  • Each Track laid and ran in quick succession, no aging.

    • Track One was 10 yd on damp short grass.

    • Track Two was 10 yd on damp short grass.

    • Track Three was 15 yd damp short grass.

GOAL FOR THE TRACK: (Same Goal for these Two Sessions today)

  • To foster engagement with track, and practice in wet weather.

How did it feel?

  • Felt pretty good for the most part. It was a little awkward starting during three of the tracks where i felt she was following the track start but almost trying to walk diagonally while following the track of chicken. She righted herself.

List three things the dog did well:

  1. Ignoring the rain and loud helicopters.

  2. Re finding the track after taking pause to investigate a close by bench.

  3. Really leaning into the harness and digging in.

List three things you’d like to improve:

  1. Me getting better with handling where I can better support her starting straight instead of possibly creating a confusing back pull that made her drift diagonally.

(Me trying to hold the leash one handed was silly and dumb of me. It definitely made my handling much more sloppy and I will not make that mistake again...).

  2. Me varying the surfaces of her little chicken trails instead of only finding myself gravitating to mowed grass.

  3. Me keeping even pressure as she speeds up and slows down.

Goal for next track:

  • Find more textures and surfaces to practice on.

  • Make the chicken tracks longer in easier areas, as well as keeping them shorter while taking her to more busy locations. (Busy with sights, smells, and sounds.)
